I was driving along Route 101 in California between Buelton and Gaviota and saw a sign for McCain. While Santa Barbara was saturated with Obama signs, the Santa Ynez Valley went in the opposite direction. But this particular sign was memorable: "Use your brain, Vote for McCain". I could only wonder if the signmaker had used his own brain given that the sign was part of a combination that included "PORK PALACE" and "Pigs for Sale".
Here is the sign:
It must have been the entrance to a pig farm and yes, this is America and pig farmers have the right to show support for their candidates just as all Americans, but come on now, their favorite commodity has figured in the election from Palin's lipstick to congressional spending.
I nearly got into a traffic accident and had to turn around and go back to get a good photo. Later, at a family reunion, I discovered that not all my cousins got a laugh out of it, but I also discovered that some of them were making enormous headway in building support for Obama in ranching communities.
