A thought experiment for conservatives, crossposted from redstate.
I am crossposting my diary from redstate, in an effort to show that I can take shots from both sides.
I'd like to invite you to take a thought experiment. My premise is this: Is it possible for the GOP to ever become "too conservative"?
I ask this as a former moderate Republican (call me a RINO if you will). Is there any scenario under which you might feel that the Republican party has shifted too far to the right, and that certain interest groups had hijacked your party? What would this scenario look like?
These days I guess I would consider myself a progressive, however I disagree with many progressives, liberals, and Democrats on a host of issues. I do not believe in affirmative action. I fear powerful labor unions. Card check is an abomination. While I support affordable college education for all and universal health care, I would never want my tax dollars to support government sponsored maternity leave or day care, let alone most "art". While I believe in global warming and support a vigorous effort to decrease CO2 emissions, I worry that the Sierra Club may slow economic development in order to save some absolutely useless species that I have never even heard of. I disagree with many constituencies that make up the Democratic Party, and almost considered voting for McCain.
Is there anyone here who shares similar concerns about the GOP?
