Mika Brzezinski on "Morning Joe" has been defending Sarah Palin all morning about the obscene amount of money that has been spent on her clothing since she has been named the Vice Presidential candidate for the Republican Party.
I think it's fair to say most politicians spend more than the average Joe on clothes but $150,000 in two months, well that is a bit overboard. That's my mortgage and it will take me 30 years to pay it off.
A woman emailed the show and said that she was mad at Mika for defending Palin. She said if Palin is going to represent the hockey moms and Walmart moms of this country it's hypercritical of her to spend that kind of money.
Mika, after hearing the email said she agreed but within minute she started defending Sarah Palin again. She said that, no matter what, women will be scrutinized for how they look. I'm not sure how this translates to being OK to wear very, very expensive suits. Then she says it's OK because the clothes will be donated. This is the part that gets me. First of all where will they be donated? Because I want to be the first one to pick up a suit worth thousands of dollars for free or for pennies from the charitable consignment shop that they donate the suits to! Also, imagine how many lower income women in this country could get a very nice, reasonably priced suit, for that amount of money, maybe 300,000 to 600,000 women. Wow! Imagine thousands of unemployed women marching confidently into a job interviews in their new suits.
Then, finally, Mika's last reason for defending Palin was because the Republican Party just kind of made her wear them. As if she didn't see a price tag or perhaps the name of the store as she went in. Cluelessly made to try on clothes like dressing a Malibu Barbie. If Sarah Palin has the sense to be Vice President then she has the ability to determine if $150,000 is really a true representation of the small-town Walmart Mom image that she has been waving in our faces for weeks.
She is Republican arm candy and that offends me as a woman. The overwhelming emphasis they are putting on her appearance only reiterates what we all suspect, she isn't the intelligent person that we need to be in the second highest office of the United States. I am deeply offended that the republican Party, once again, thinks Americans are too dumb to see through their games.
Shame on the Republican Party.
Shame on Sarah Palin.
And shame on Mika Brzezinski!
Update: Yes, $0.25 would be a little low to buy a suit from a charitable consignment shop but you get my point.
