With all the talk about the robocalls being placed by both parties, I was feeling a bit left out as I hadn't received any. Sure, I've received the normal smear robocalls from Thelma "Bush Rubber Stamp" Drake along with about 15 or so pounds of smear mailers from her in her fight to keep her seat from being taken by Glenn Nye (VA-02).
But nothing from the presidential campaigns...until last night.
It took me a while to transcribe the call but here's what I received:
Hello Virginia. This is Michelle Obama calling on behalf of Obama's Campaign for Change. We all know a lot is at stake in this election and you can't risk not letting your voice be heard and heard early. You can vote early this year if you typically have a long commute or will be absent from your locality on election day.
To find your early vote location or to apply for an absentee ballot, visit va.barackobama.com or call 1-877-850-2008. Barack is ready to bring the change this country needs in Washington.
Again, if you have a long commute or plan to be absent from your locality on election day, I encourage you to vote absentee by visiting va.barackobama.com or by calling 1-877-850-2008.
Thank you Virginia. Together we can make real change happen.
Paid for by the Virginia Democratic Party and authorized by Obama for America.
Now that's a robocall! Nothing negative. Nothing to make you want to slam down the phone in frustration or anger. Just a pure positive message with important information for Virginia voters.
So I went to the website because I was curious. Virginia doesn't have early voting for the Presidential election like other states. You can vote early for Governor or Attorney General or other statewide races but not for elections on the national level.
I found this on the website that explained:
In Virginia you can vote early for Barack by voting absentee either in person or by mail. By voting early, you will ensure that your voice for Barack has been heard. You’ll also help prevent possible long lines on Election Day!
There are many reasons you may be eligible to vote absentee, including long work hours, being away for college or work, or being an active member of the armed forces.
This is great information and I'm glad the Obama campaign is getting the word out. Michelle Obama is right: This election is too important not to have your voice heard.
