The whole idea has pretty much been trashed from one end of the political spectrum to the other but with less than two weeks left before the fate of the Free World is decided, it's time to ask once again, How bad is McCain's plan to address the mortgage woes that beset our cities and towns?
Even Steve Preston, Bush's HUD Secretary, was compelled to tell those in attendance at a Town Hall forum in Seattle that he has "a very grave concern" about the candidate's proposal.
More below the fold:
From the Post-Intelligencer earlier this week:
In response to a question during a forum at Town Hall in Seattle, Preston said the problem is that the plan would put the loss on taxpayers, "when the financial institution took that risk.
"I don't think we can suffer that big of a loss. ... That is not invested money. That is just a loss."
Okay. Got that? John McCain's solution for the mortgage crisis: So bad, not even a Bushie will defend it. Just another reason to MAKE SURE your friends and neighbors GET OUT AND VOTE Nov. 4.
I know, I know, news reports make it sound like some of us are already starting to celebrate. Well, it ain't over until the last American votes. We need to keep pushing our candidate. Unlike the opposition, the Obama Plan will actually begin to remedy problems that have fueled our economic worries. So do whatever it takes between now and election day to support local Democratic Party efforts to turn out voters by the close of polls Nov. 4.
Get on the phone, volunteer to drive voters to the poll, distribute literature, create a video, paint your belly blue, hand-paint your own yard sign, put on your Obama hat, send an email to everyone in your address book, put a bumper sticker on your car, do the hand jive while chanting YES WE CAN.
Whatever. It. Takes.
And once the final vote is cast and the junior senator from Illinois is now the president-elect of these United States, then, and only then, let's meet back here Nov. 4th for one helluva hoe down.
I leave you with this, the conclusion of Langston Hughes "Let America Be America Again":
Out of the rack and ruin of our gangster death,
The rape and rot of graft, and stealth, and lies,
We, the people, must redeem
The land, the mines, the plants, the rivers.
The mountains and the endless plain--
All, all the stretch of these great green states--
And make America again!
