I turn 25 years old today.
Twenty-five.
Seriously.
I can totally rent a car now.
That's the only benefit I've found so far, but let me know if there are more.
But, even better than that is the fact that this is my first ever dKos diary, and I'm going to do the unthinkable:
I'm going to ask you all for a present.
I'm going to ask you all for money.
Before I go any further, understand the money is not for me. You can think of it as a birthday present, but it's more so an investment.
See, I live in one of those new Congressional districts. It's the kind you saw spring up in Minnesota last week. And then there was one that grew out of nowhere in New York. They're the districts deeply entrenched in a new form of class warfare: the firm battle between the have-little's and the want-more's. Mine lies directly in the middle of the great State of North Carolina, and if you came to visit you'd have no idea there was a war going on.
Here I was thinking that we all loved America, but boy was I wrong.
Last weekend, my Representative took to the stage of a packed arena in my hometown, and declared that myself and the majority of folks in his entire district "hate real Americans."
I don't want that for myself and my future family.
I don't want that for my friends and loved ones.
I don't want that for my neighbors or any of the wonderful people I've met through the 8th district.
And so today I've climbed out of my usual role of strictly rec's and comments to ask you to help me.
We have to send Larry Kissell to Washington to represent me and my friends and family and neighbors. We got him within 329 votes last time around, and now's the time to make sure we do it right. But enough rambling from me, it's still my first day. Here's my measly pitch, as it stands on my ActBlue page:
It’s my 25th birthday.
I don’t want a card.
I don’t want a present.
I’ll tell you what I do want:
I want a Congressman that will represent NC-08 to the best of his abilities.
I want a Congressman that has his ACTUAL CONSTITUENCY IN MIND when he votes.
But most importantly, I want a Congressman that believes that we’re all “real Americans,” and will do more to unite our nation and help show the world that we’re ready to build ourselves back up from the mistakes made on our behalf over the last 8 years.
Help join the fight.
Make any donation you can, but make sure it ends in $.25. Got an extra $10.25? $25.25? $50.25?
Donate it in my honor.
It’s all I’ll ask.
And so I'll leave it at that. My only goal is to see how many people I can get to donate any amount they can, all in the name of my silly little birthday.
Donate $5.25.
Donate $10.25.
Hell, donate $525.25
Let's just make sure we all give a little bit to send a great man to Washington. I mean, come on, it's my birthday...
