I've volunteered to do voter protection work with the Obama campaign in Ohio. I can't tell you how thrilled I am to be part of such an important effort in protecting our democratic rights.
Yesterday, I got this e-mail from the campaign. They are still in dire need of people with legal skills to volunteer to help.
Voter Protection Team:
Welcome to Ohio! Thank you again bringing your expertise to what is fast becoming the largest voter protection mobilization ever. Polls in Ohio are very close, no Republican has won the Presidency without winning Ohio, and we've seen what lengths the Republicans will go to win. You will be our first point of contact for any problem that may arise.
Already the Ohio legal team has been working with election officials to make sure there are no disruptions of voting or disenfranchisement of voters, as well as responding to legal problems that have arisen regarding voter registration and early voting. I'm sure you have heard about last week's victory in the U.S. Supreme Court. With your help, we will launch the most effective voter protection effort in Ohio history and win a pivotal victory – and the presidency – for Senator Obama.
We have not quite reached our goals. We'd like our legal army to be at full force this week. Your own commitment and willingness to travel to Ohio is the strongest recruiting message we could deliver. Would you reach out to colleagues today and find just one or two people to join you in this push for justice? If you will do that, we will be at full strength in short order.
I'm not including the addresses of the Ohio contacts here (they're personal e-mail addresses), but if you e-mail me through my profile I will send them to you.
Or you can sign up directly at the Obama Voter Protection Program page, but it may take longer. (From some of the comments, below, it looks like they may be pretty backed up.)
Hope this diary isn't a duplicate, but wanted to get the word out !
