I was at my local Obama office tonight (diligently entering data), when one of our campaign staff told us she just heard that John McCain's brother Joe was caught on tape calling 911 in Alexandria, VA complaining about a traffic delay on I-95.
Operator: Alexandria 911, state your emergency
Caller: Well, it's not an emergency but do you know why on one side at the damn drawbridge of 95 traffic is stopped for 15 minutes and yet traffic's coming the other way across the drawbridge?
Operator: Sir, are you calling 911 to complain about traffic? (pause)
Caller: "[Expletive]" (caller hangs up)
My immediate reaction to the news was most likely the same as most folks, the McCain males apparently have some real anger management issues, along with hair trigger tempers. I don't think Joe was a POW, so maybe it's just in the genes.
I waited for someone to post this little tidbit tonight, but didn't see anything, then d'oh I searched and a diary was posted much earlier today by snkscore. I thought this deserved another go round for the amusement and edification of all.
I mean seriously, we couldn't make this stuff up, read about it here: LA Times Blog
AP- Joe McCain Apologizes and Withdraws from Campaign
In fairness to Joe, apparently he has seen the error of his ways:
"I feel terrible about having hurt the campaign over this incident," he said. "I won't be doing any more campaigning because of that."
McCain said he's going to write a note of apology to the 911 operator and to the Alexandria police.
Joe McCain said he hasn't spoken to his brother about the incident.
"He's not going to be happy about it, I'm sure," he said.
But I wonder if he's going to apologize for this comment?
McCain's brother has been in the news on other occasions recently. Speaking at an event in early October in support of his brother, he called two Democratic-leaning areas in Northern Virginia "communist country."
Apparently KO mentioned this on Countdown tonight, but I can't embed MSNBC videos, sorry.
