Probably the high points of Republican viciousness during the RNC were the slanders of community organizing by Giuliani and Palin. "Community Organizer" Rudy guffawed. "Reeeel Responsibilities" Palin snarked.
Well, my friends, Palin, Giuliani, and McCain are about to get their sorry little butts kicked by, you guessed it, COMMUNITY ORGANIZING.
More on the flip.
When political scientists look back on the absolute machine the Obama campaign has put together they will conclude that it represents the ultimate synthesis between the community organizing techniques heretofor reserved for small groups seeking a voice, and mainstream big-time politics.
Starting with the internet as a form of cyber-canvassing for volunteers and funds, and leading to the dozens and dozens of storefront offices from the blue coastlines to the reddest of red heartland and southern states, the Obama campaign has brought power back to the people. Finally, a Democrat has carried the messages and optimism that most Americans agree with to their front doors, and, by knocking on every damn one of them, has convinced them that our party is truly on their side.
The Rove revolution was based on his experience as a direct-mail huckster. By targeting and inflaming niche voters, he could pack together enough votes to elect candidates who most Americans didn't even agree with on the issues.
Those days are gone. Thanks to the greatest community organizer this country's ever seen (with appologies to MLK, Jr.), we will finally see the Democrats bring home the voters that belong in our camp, and deliver a great majority on November 4.
Power to the People. Thanks to Obama, the "Community Organizer", it works.
