It is true that General Colin Powell plans to cast his ballot for Obama this year in the general election. I was pleased to see this. Another General, this one closer to home for me, is also voting for Obama.
I feel I need to write this, however, I won't name the General because he is my father-in-law. He is a retired Major General with the National Guard and resides in the state of Oklahoma.
I have been married to my wife for 10 years. Politics are never discussed during our stays at Grandma and Grandpa's house as their views are often to the right of those of my wife's and mine. They have supported Republican candidates as long as I have known them (a little reluctant about W in 2004, though).
This morning after my wife's usual weekend phone call with her mom she told me that her parents were supporting Obama for the following reason: Palin!
They like McCain. They are older, but slightly younger than him. My father-in-law's military background makes McCain the perfect candidate for him. They were set to vote for McCain until they learned enough about Palin. They know that VP's are often asked to step into the shoes of the president and couldn’t imagine Caribou Barbie in that position.
I am hoping that if they can figure this out on their own others surly will as well. If only they would vote against Inhofe....
I can dream can't I?
