For every American who has had a vision, a dream, a hope for a better tomorrow, Senator Obama has put his neck on the line for us. To help us move toward what we desire. To inch us towards our visions, our dreams, and, secure our hopes.
His Grandmother is gravely ill. His two precious daughters haven't spent as much time with him as they would like to. His incredible wife, Michelle, has been an anchor beside him and in his absense. He continues to hit the campaign hard. He continues to fly from city to city with an encouraging smile on his face and determination in his voice. He has put up with the ugliest racism we've seen in most of our life times.
This incredible human being has done all of this for all of us.
I went to the Obama rally in Albuquerque last night. The line was a couple of miles long, 3-4 people wide. I watched as the community organizers walked up and down the line asking for volunteers. Some were met with enthusiasm, others with indifference. I watched as some in the line treated the CO's as they would a homeless person asking for spare change...like they didn't hear their pleas. Shameful. Absolutely shameful. The only way we can ensure that this election doesn't get stolen is to work. Hard. Now.
So what can we do for him?
Remember words like this.
John McCain seems to think he will have this all wrapped up on election night despite what the voters say.
We're going to do well in this campaign, my friend. We're going to win it, and it's going to be tight, and we're going to be up late;
These words, as innocent as they may seem, bring back awful memories of the 2000 election when late on that fateful Tuesday night the colors on the maps switched and Bush was declared the winner. Call me a pessimist, but I don't trust any Republicans with our elections. I call shenanigans on them. I think they will do whatever they can to steal this election. And I don't trust John McCain to do what is right. He will steal an election if he needs to.
Remember this too.
Brought to you by the racist folks who purchased a rotation ad online at the Albuquerque Journal the week before our election. I don't know what dismays me more, that the largest newspaper in the State of New Mexico would take money from such a hate monger, or, that the hate monger is still able to spread more vicious lies about Senator Obama.
He has put his neck on the line for all of us. What can you do?
Canvass. This is the final week. Call your local Obama office and offer up 2-3 hours of your time to walk a neighborhood. Knock on doors. Get out the vote.
Telephone banking. Call your local Obama office and offer to make some calls. It is easy.
Volunteer at the polls. Call your local County Clerks office and ask them if they need someone to work a poll on election day. Yes, it is a full day commitment but probably one of the most rewarding experiences you will have in your life. And, you'll realize just how easy it is to steal an election.
Drive voters to the polls. Call your local Obama office and get on their driving list.
House an Obama volunteer/staffer. There are still dedicated Obama volunteers and staffers who need a place to sleep this next weekend through Tuesday. Do you have a pull-out couch or an extra bed?
Stop by an Obama office and find out what they need. You will be surprised what their responses might be. From fruit to tea to clip boards. They will let you know.
Count provisional ballots. Your County Clerks office might even pay you to do this.
Put your neck on the line for Senator Obama. He is putting his on the line every day for us. All of us.
GOTV.
Si, se puede.
(UPDATE) I found
this link with some pretty brazen predictions from McCain. Thought you might like to see it.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Sunday on NBC’s "Meet the Press" that he can "guarantee" a win on Nov. 4 in a squeaker victory that won’t be clear until late that night.
He can guarantee this win.
Also, I'll add two more to do items to help with getting out the vote.
Donate and volunteer if you are a lawyer.
