It’s time to pray.
Check out a number of the right wing blogs over the last couple of days – Redstate in particular. Some of our brothers and sisters in the Christian faith are actually aligning themselves in prayer AGAINST Barack Obama. See http://www.redstate.com/... There was another diary over there last night (sorry can't get to the link because their site is crappy) that was actually calling for prayer against Obama during the time of his 30 minute broadcast tonight.
How sad. Really. I'm sure these folks are well meaning (o.k. I know I'm applying a liberal helping of grace and mercy here), but what a misuse of the opportunity that collective prayer provides.
Join me below the fold...
These are intense times we're in. I swing wildly from being so excited that victory is just a breath away to pacing the floor wringing my hands despairing a loss. When my emotions get the best of me, I pray. But never would I use prayer to pray against anyone - not even John McCain or Sarah Palin.
I won’t get into a whole theological diatribe other than to say that the bible I read always encourages us to pray FOR someone, even our enemies, and AGAINST the power of evil. As a Christian who believes that there are forces of good and evil at work at all times, I intend to counter every so-called "prayer assault" that can be mustered up against Barack Obama with a "prayer assault" of my own!
I’ve said it time and again. THE CONSERVATIVE, RIGHT WING DOES NOT HAVE A CORNER ON THE CHRISTIAN MARKET! And they definitely are not the only ones who can reach God’s ears in prayer.
I’m Christian, I’m voting for Barack Obama, and you better believe I KNOW HOW TO PRAY TOO!
So to all my brothers and sisters out there, in the words of our dear candidate, "lets get to work"...on our knees. Let's pray tonight, and every night or day or whenever, not for the downfall of our opponent, but the uplifting of our nation, the protection of all those seeking to serve in office, and the unity of all - every hue in the land - in the spirit of peace.
Now that's a prayer I'm sure will bless God.
Peace be unto you..
