I just wonder how Nancy Pelosi thinks anyone is going to oversee the crooks on Wall Street now that Congress has traded their only bargaining chip, giving the perps all the money they want on a silver platter? The only chance we had at justice was to write real legislation that had reform included before they gave the crooks the money they wanted. It's clear that all Congress cares about is its vested interest in saving the Stock Market and could care less what voters want.
Reform like a freeze on home mortgages and refi's on crooked ARMs down to 30-40 year fixed term mortgages on 80-90% of fair market values of failing homeowners. Those would have been some good options to think about FIRST before signing away all of our power.
And while they are all patting themselves on the back for giving George Bush yet another victory (like Telecom Immunity), and saying that we did the right thing for the people as if the people of this country don't know what's good for us:
Did anyone ever stop to think just how easy it would be for Hank Paulson and his big trader buddies to send the stock market down 700 points the day after this hair-brained bailout was rightly voted down by the House the first time?
Maybe our next Congress, which will hopefully include some Independent, non-Republicans and non-Democrats will be able to think about things more responsibly and do what the American people want. Yes, that includes John McCain, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and everyone I can think of at the moment other than Dennis Kucinich.
Vote for Immediate withdrawal from Iraq on Day 1.
Vote for Economic Bailout for Homeowners and taxpayers
Vote for Marriage Equality for All
VOTE NADER-GONZALEZ '08
P.S. Obviously this diary will not be recommended because my conclusion doesn't fawn upon the sainted B.O. and Democratic Party that is currently the modus operandi on the Daily Kos. But if you don't start holding these people accountable people, in 20 years we'll be back in the same boat with a bunch of corrupt Democrats we'll be trying to get rid of just like the last 10 years of corrupt Republicans. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Give them an inch they'll take a mile. All cliche's. Here's one of my own: Like the economy and the stock market, corruption in Congress runs in cycles.
