The pundits have been telling us for years that the VP debate doesn't matter, however, in this case, I believe that it absolutely WILL, and I think that is very bad news for McCain/Palin...and they don't even know it...
Follow me below the jump for more...wink wink...
What I have heard consistently over the last 24 hours from the mainstream pundits is how Sarah Palin has exceeded expectations, and now that she has demonstrated such amazing competance, it could help John McCain. They compare her to Biden as if their performances were of equals, it makes me question my sanity and yet, I think this time, it will not work.
Not only do I think that she lost the debate, but I also think that this WILL become the most talked about, laughed at executive branch political debate ever.
What has spread all over the internet over the last few weeks has been Saturday Night Live's mockery of Sarah Palin being Sarah Palin...
What she did in the debate that the mainstream media has inexplicably called "competance" is to fulfill every single stereotype that has ever been put out there on Saturday Night Live.
What this has caused:
- Any woman who has ever wanted to be taken seriously (and that is most of them) is SERIOUSLY pissed off right now. What made Hillary Clinton special is that she was tough as nails, brilliant, and she knew her stuff backwards, forwards, and upside down. She was running for the most important job in the world, and she almost made it because she was one of the best. This is what impressed women - not that she was a woman, but that she represented women so well. They were proud to be associated with her! Not so with Palin, I (and most other women) cringed with every wink, "golly gee", folsy expression, and talking point answer (even if didn't have anything to do with the question).
- It is a guarantee that this weeks SNL will have Tina Fey doing a spot-on, word by word, absolutely perfect representation of Sarah Palin. The pundits can spin as much as they want about exceeding expectations, but SNL will be the final say on this one. Many independents (and people who are not interested in politics), will only see the SNL parody - and that (using her own words/without the pundits yabbering about expectations low enough for a 5th grader to exceed them) will have her come across as just as much of a joke as the Couric interview - because it WAS just as much of a joke as the COuric interview - if not more so!
- Older people. This is McCain's base, and he got it because many of them believed that he was the more experienced, more serious candidate. Now, after seeing Palin, this is out the window - how can they compare Palin to Biden and think anything else. Older people have been around long enough to see right thru this, and it completely destroys their reason for voting for McCain as a serious candidate. They might not watch SNL, but they will probably see it replayed, and it will just further the narrative that this is someone who thought that debating about serious topics was a complete (wink wink - golly gee) joke!
At this point, who did her cutesy act appeal to - horny Republican guys who would vote for her anyways...well, with the country in the mess it is, even many of them will probably begin to ask themselves...do they really want her a 72 year old - 4time cancer survivor's heartbeat away from the presidency...
And to that, the only sane answer is NO!
