Life is about more than making money. You know, although Joe the Plumber will pay fewer taxes under Obama (if he doesn't become a country music star and if he bothers to start paying taxes at all), I will. Ouch! But . . . my kids won't. And you never know what life will bring . . . we may all need a little help someday.
My Dad was a hero. Obama's Heath plans would have helped him . . .
Let me tell you a little story about my Republican father and about a small business that did the right thing . . .
My dad was a Republican welder in Tulsa. He loved to save up all the Clinton jokes he heard and make me listen to them. He worked hard his whole life. He bought a little farm up north of Tulsa, where I was raised. He saved his money--never lived "high on the hog."
When he was close to retirement age, he got sick--lots of medical bills.
But he was a hero. He'd saved the lives of two men he worked with.
One caught fire and ran. My dad chased him down and rolled him until he'd put out the flames.
The other one fell from a high place, and my dad caught him in his strong arms before he hit the floor.
So his small company let him retire, but kept him on part time. He could read blueprints better than anyone, although he had not finished high school. They kept him on part time so he'd still have insurance to pay all those high medical bills.
The insurance company went to Daddy's company and told them that they'd raise premiums on every employee if they didn't kick Daddy off the plan. But they didn't. And they paid more until my Daddy died.
Even hard-working Republicans need a little looking after. And profits are not everything.
I don't know if my dad would vote for Obama if he still lived, but I sure will, in my Daddy's name.
