Hey there, Wells Dunbar here from the Austin Chronicle. You may have seen our diary here last week detailing how Republican Sen. John Cornyn jacked footage from our video blog, Hail to the Hustle, for a lame attack ad against Dem challenger Rick Noriega. The story's been getting some traction: read our write-up here, and blog reaction here, here, and here.
But the Hustle isn't one to rest on his laurels. We've been filming weekly vlogs all through November, and we're back this week featuring several Central Texas Dems running this electric election season. See, there's hope for Texas after all!
The Hustle chats up Central Texas pols running for all manner of seats: U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett, Texas House member Valinda Bolton, Texas House candidate Larry Joe Doherty, and judicial candidate Woody Jones. All this, and a socialist sandwich too.
Rep. Lloyd Doggettshould be familiar to many Kossacks, as he's been a persistent force for fairness and liberalism in D.C. for many years. I'm also wagering Larry Joe Doherty looks familiar – likely from his gig as "Judge" Larry Joe on the syndicated show Texas Justice, but he's running – very closely! – to unseat Republican Mike McCaul from his CenTex seat in the House of Representatives. Closer to home, there's Texas House incumbent, Dem Valinda Bolton, and judicial candidate Woodie Jones, but like Doggett says, this November is about taking it from the courthouse to the White House. Local races, while not as exciting as the Presidential contest, can shape your life in ways far more immediate than decisions from D.C.
Thanks for watching!
