So today we have this story courtesy of sam stein at huffpo,
The Republican Party of Pennsylvania is sending out a flier that paints John McCain and Hillary Clinton as political allies, and presents the McCain-Palin ticket as the one to break the glass ceiling in which Clinton "left 18 million cracks."
im going to paste some quotes from the pamphlet here to give you a flavor of the crazy, for more you can read Stein's whole article. (linked above)
From the pamphlet:
Senator Hillary Clinton blazed a trail for future generations of women. She fought for working families, and she heard your voices. America needs a steady hand to guide out nation in a time of terrorist threats. Senator Clinton said, "...we need a solid plan to restore our economy, to create jobs, and to provide health care."
Most importantly, Senator Clinton knows how to reach across the aisle to solve problems. Both she and John McCain have shown the American people proven results, not pretty words.
and this, on which i have further thoughts below:
I share Senator Clinton's goal of promoting women to more important roles throughout our government. By the end of my first term, I promise you will see a dramatic increase in the presence of women in every part of the government. You have my word on it.
This of course is just more evidence if you needed any of a floundering campaign in its dying days, and as a Hillary supporter i know it when i see it.
As a Hillary supporter and now Obama supporter i want to respond to Senator Mccain entreatment to me directly. I want to do this here to make amends for my behavior during the primary, i threw a lot of bombs and daily let my frustrations vent in comments. I was not alone mind you, the primary made trolls out of many of us, but for me as a long time member (i think i joined in 2004, does 4 years make me long time? it feels like a long time...) i feel i should make peace with the people here who i have loved reading and talking with and arguing with and flaming over these long hard years of the Bush Era. So with that here is my reply to Senator McCain.
Dear Senator Mccain,
In the final days of the election your campaign has sent out these flyers to the voters of Pennsylvania :
It is fascinating to me that your closing strategy in Pensylvania is to appeal to Hillary voters. You may not have noticed Senator that Hillary Clinton supporters are Democrats, most of us, Senator, are pretty darn hardcore Democrats. Remember us? those same Democrats that for 8 years in the 90's you mocked and attempted to destroy, you remember surley, we supported that woman who your party tried to tear apart, about whom your party spared no bile.
We are Democrats, Senator. We believe in universal healthcare, we believe in diplomacy, We believe in a womans right to chose, we believe that gay men and women must have equal rights these, Senator, are just a few of the things we believe. You believe in none of these things, your whole record stands diametrically opposed to these views.
So it makes me wonder Senator, it really makes me wonder, what is it that you have to offer Hillary supporters. I racked my brain and i came up with what could possibly be your rationale for this strategy. We know you share none of our views, so your pitch to us is either because you believe that we harbor some remaining animus to Barack Obama (possible even because you think we are secret racists). OR it could be because many of us Clinton supporters are women. If this is your rationale, first its hysterical and second your presidential aspirations will as of Nov. 4th remain exactly that, aspirations, and i think the clock is ticking on those, infact i think the clock battery is almost done.
As to your first rational, that we hate Obama. We dont. We love him like we loved Hillary. You know why?
heres two reason:
First, Hillary told us to:
Second, we have seen what Barack Obama is made of, we have seen it first hand, we have seen the awesome power he has to lift peoples hearts. During the primary i admit i dismissed this as mere rhetoric. In the ensuing months it has been come clear it is not mere rhetoric, it is not some ethereal promise soon to be broken, it is the core of the man. It is a symbol of the metal of the man, a sign of what this country could be.
In the heat of political battle we have seen him use a potent weapon, Hope. Not just any Hope, Hope in the darkest of hours, Hope when dreams have been shattered Hope when you are left battered and bruised. and i can think of no better evidence than this, after he has been handed defeat this is HIS reply:
So that leaves us with you only other possible rationale for appealing to us to save your Farkakt campaign. You believe that a large portion of us are women and you, you maverick you, put a WOMAN on the ticket. Oh and not just any woman you put:
Well i have some bad news Senator Mccain. I am not a woman for one, but more importantly, WTF Senator, seriously WTF?!
You saw this :
and in return offered this:
It really does beggar belief.
Well Senator, im sorry i wont be voting for you or Governor Palin, even though i find her befuddlement entertaining, and have a morbid curiosity to know just how long it would take for her to destroy the country. I simply can not do it. I wish you luck in retirement and thank you for your service to this country, I promise i will try and remember you as the maverick and hero you were and not the abomination you have become.
Oh and tell Sarah Plain i look forward to not watching her soon to be commissioned cable news show between Huckabee and Geraldo Reveals on Saturdays on Fox, i'm sure her first interview with the Chairman of the European Central Bank will be...like totally awesome.
