Eugene, the founder of TruthandHope.org, who did so much to keep the hopes of Deaniacs alive through the 2004 Vermont primary and the campaign for DNC Chair, is a bit verbose. He's also on the road today and not able to promote his latest project, Local Voices for Obama.
So, when I offered to put all the information together and pimp it for the REC list, I promised myself that I'd be brief. But, I guess verbosity is catching. In any case, I can't resist a little more history.
You see, during the Dukakis campaign in 1988, when I was holding down the fort in the local Democratic campaign office in the only Democratic county in North Florida, we got almost no support from the Presidential campaign except for some stacks of position papers and a young operative from the north who didn't know which end was up. (I don't recall whether Dukakis even made it to the sunshine state. I do recall that in 1992 Clinton/Gore got as close as Valdosta, Georgia and we all drove the three hours to see them. And I still have a video somewhere).
Anyway, at some point we decided to commission a local DJ to get us a little GOTV jingle made, paid for it ourselves, and then I made the mistake of calling up to Massachusetts to get an OK to put it on the radio. I say "mistake" because the unequivocal answer from one of the Deputy Campaign muckety mucks was "absolutely not."
Which brings me to the observation that one of the ways we have come a long way is that in 2008 we the people are well along to taking our elections back. And, it turns out it's really easy, because when people feel in charge they do really good work. Present example--the Local Voices videos organized for the Heartland markets (Missouri, Ohio and Nevada are already contracted)as Eugene explained at length.
So, all I'm going to do is post some reminders (most of us have to see something thrice before it registers enough to get us to act).
From Joplin, Missouri we present, Dana Snodgrass
From Columbus, Ohio we have, Barlay Hastings
And from the Paiute-Shoshone Reservation outside Fallon Nevada, Sandy Austin
Now, that's one place even Dr. Dean left out of his litany of states. He's kept his promise, but we're doing him some better. (Not bragging, you understand).
We all know that the media are not free. So, while I titled this "Send ... Love" what I really mean is that TruthandHope needs to be augmented by money.
I know the Obama Campaign is looking to build up a little cushion. And I don't blame them. But, Love in the Heartland is a long-term investment. So, send what you can and give this little effort a recommend.
P.S. I know from personal experience that KOS readers need to be reminded to tip and recommend, especially if the diary is so long that the recommend button scrolls out of sight. It's a matter of priorities.
