I had just finished StevenR's recommended diary this morning on the Obama campaign going for knockout on McCain by attacking his healthcare plan, when I stumbled across the new Obama ad on Ben Smith's blog at Politico.com.
The ad:
Transcript
Obama: I'm Barack Obama and I approve this message.
Narrator: On healthcare, John McCain promises a tax credit, but here's what he won't tell you. McCain would impose a new tax on health benefits, taxing your healthcare for the first time ever. Its a multi-trillion dollar tax hike. The largest middle class tax increase in history. You won't find one word about it on his web site, but the McCain tax could cost your family thousands. Can you afford it?
Did you hear that? The largest middle class tax increase in history. I believe we're going to be hearing a lot of that over the next few days as we try to segue the crisis on Wall Street to a discussion on healthcare, and John McCain's "radical" healthcare policy.
StevenR fleshed this out a lot more in his recommended diary, and if you haven't read it, I suggest it. This is going to be the meme over the next two weeks, putting McCain on the defensive regarding both tax policy and healthcare policy. I especially like the tax attacks, because it has become such a cliche now for McCain to attack Obama on taxes, it will be a welcome respite to see him have to defend his own record.
