Union members from NY and NJ join with PA union members to visit union households in PA to urge bother and sister union members and their families to vote for Obama. It was tough going until this weekend.
I'm a union member from NJ and I joined other union members from NY, PA and NJ at the Boilermakers Hall in Bucks County. I was a driver and my husband and I were joined by a family of three from Queens NY who came in by bus. We were given a packet with the names and addresses of union members in a nearby town. We were to go out and talk union member to union member about the importance of electing Obama.
This effort has been going on for a month. The results had been dissapointing. Many of the union members who were talked to revealed in various ways their reluctance to vote for Obama. Sometimes even directly saying it was because he's black. But this week there was a dramatic turn.
I found no hesitancy in getting a response and found that the common answer was no way am I going to vote republican. I'm feeling much better about PA. "Vote your paycheck" was the phrase of the day.
