"Say it ain't so, Joe, there you go again pointing backwards again. You preferenced your whole comment with the Bush administration. Now doggone it, let's look ahead... "
Silly democrats- you think that time is linear- that events occur in succession. Republicans have learned how to bend time- Talking about the last 8 years of economic disaster is looking backward. Talking about McCain’s military service more than 35 years ago is looking ahead.
More examples after the break-
Yes, time isn’t like a river, flowing in one direction. Einstein was right. Looking backwards is all in the eye of the beholder. To illustrate this simple principle of physics, some examples:
Not looking backward:
McCain was a POW in Vietnam.
Looking Backward:
McCain was one of the Keating 5 who made the S&L crisis much bigger than it would have been.
Not looking backward:
Palin was mayor of a town of 5-6000.
Looking Backward:
Troopergate, illegal emails, paying for rape kits...
Not looking backward:
McCain belatedly supported a bill to regulate Fannie Mae
Looking Backward:
Republicans never brought the bill to the floor for a vote.
Not looking backward:
Obama attended a church where Rev. Wright preached.
Looking Backward:
Palin had a laying on of hands on by a witch hunting Pentacostal last week.
Not looking backward:
McCain called for more regulation of the greedy financial institutions on Wall Street last week.
Looking Backward:
McCain called for less regulation of the greedy financial institutions on Wall Street and in business and in health care repeatedly and forcefully for 20 years.
Not looking backward:
McCain is a maverick with mavericky ideas and true mavericity.
Looking Backward:
McCain voted with Bush over 90% of the time.
Not looking backward:
Palin said "Thanks but no thanks to the Bridge to Nowhere".
Looking Backward:
Palin supported the Bridge until it became a political liability, and Alaska would have had to pay part of the cost. Then she kept the money...
Not looking backward:
Palin and McCain are against earmarks- and McCain will make the people asking for earmarks famous...
Looking Backward:
Under Palin, Alaska enjoyed the highest per capita rate of earmarks in the nation- despite having enormous windfall profits from oil, and no state income tax. While McCain railed against 2 million to study bear DNA, Palin requested 3 million to study seal DNA.
Not looking backward:
By reducing the 3% of the budget going to earmarks, McCain will balance the budget.
Looking Backward:
The Republicans entered the White House with a $400 billion surplus from the Democrat Clinton years, and in 8 years have the largest deficit ever.
Not looking backward:
The surge (was that a tactic or a stategy?) worked!
Looking Backward:
The Republicans said the war would be over in less than 6 months; the cost would be borne by Iraqi oil revenues; we would be greeted as liberators. And Pappa Bush (and Cheney) were wrong after the first Gulf War when they said if we took out Saddam there would be a civil war between Sunnis and Shias.
OK, you get the idea- past is prologue, only if it fits the current narrative. Otherwise it is "looking backward"! Talk about running from their record!!!
