So the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is going to drop $150,000 into Dave Reichert's pathetic race for Congress in Washington's 8th District? They're going to smear Darcy Burner?
Well, f**k them.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce goes up Monday with a $156,000 TV buy -- anticipate ads that will smear Burner as a tax raiser -- on top of a previous $40,000 radio campaign against the Democratic challenger . . . The chamber's $40,000 radio buy was used to argue, falsely, that Burner would raise taxes on families with children.
This community has risen to challenges many times in the past. And, darn it, once again, I'm going to forgo my planned Masterpiece Of Erudition And Political Insight Formerly Scheduled For This Time Slot (hint: it had to do with John McCain, Charles Keating, and corruption - what a shock!), and instead ask Kossacks to pitch in to Help Darcy.
Back in July, when Darcy's house burned down, the blogosphere, led by Kossacks, responded with breathtaking speed and generosity, raising more than $75,000 in less than 24 hours.
I'd love to see a similarly breathtaking response to this loathsome display by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Why, you might ask? Glad you asked. See, it seems that, back in January of this year, the president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, one Mr. Tom Donohue (pictured above) made a vile threat:
"I'm concerned about anti-corporate and populist rhetoric from candidates for the presidency, members of Congress and the media," [Chamber President Tom Donohue] said. "It suggests to us that we have to demonstrate who it is in this society that creates jobs, wealth and benefits -- and who it is that eats them."
- quick note here: Uhh, did he actually say, "we have to demonstrate who it is in this society that creates jobs, wealth and benefits -- and who it is that eats them"?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! What an ass!!
Whew. Hey, will someone please send Mr. Satan Man the memo about the collapse of Lehman Brothers, and IndyMac, and WaMu - oh, and the $85 billion AIG bailout - oh, and the $700 billion Paulson methadone injection? Yeah, okay, thanks.
Okay - now, where were we? Oh, yeah: back to the rest of Mr. Douchebag's flowery rhetoric:
[Donohue] indicated that his organization would spend in excess of the approximately $60 million it spent in the last presidential cycle. That approaches the spending levels planned by the largest labor unions.
[snip]
"We plan to build a grass-roots business organization so strong that when it bites you in the butt, you bleed," chamber President Tom Donohue said.
So - if you want to be part of what one right-wing commenter in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer blog's comments section called "out-of-state slime money," or the "liberal special interest groups across the country [that] pour money into [Darcy's] race," then, please -
