I've devoted countless hours to the registration of students on Indiana University's campus. Now that it's done...we need to be sure to let as many people as possible know about early voting.
For those familiar with the state of Indiana, there are three main Democratic strongholds: Northwest Indiana, Indianapolis, and Bloomington. If the minor centers of population (Lafayette, South Bend, Fort Wayne, Terre Haute, etc) in Indiana swing Democratic (which hopefully they will :] ) then Indiana may vote for their first Democratic presidential candidate since 1964. But what will really ensure Indiana's chances for turning blue is high voter turnout in the Democratic strongholds: Northwest Indiana, Indianapolis, and Bloomington.
Right now I'm located in Bloomington. What will really make a difference in this election is the youth turnout. Voter registration has ended, and people have done a great job of registering young voters. What needs to happen now is to make sure that every youth vote counts. I've never been in Bloomington for election day but I've heard that many students get disenfranchised because of the long lines that await them. Hell, I have four classes on Tuesday and would probably be unable to vote without missing class if it wasn't for early voting. EARLY VOTING IS VITAL. The easier it is for them to vote, the more likely they will do it, and Indiana's political future rests on the shoulders of these kids.
So I'm excited to spread word to the students on IU's campus about early voting. It's the best way to guarantee that every vote counts, and everyone gets a say in this vital election.
It's election day in many other states, too. GOTV!
