His name is Senator Obama....idiot!!!!
I never thought I would hear this statement come out of McCain's mouth. Palin, a different story. McCain has been in the Senate longer than I been alive. I know the number of African-Americans in the Senate during those years have been few but this is not a excuse. He as worked with Senator Obama for over two years. I am sure that he knows Senator Obama birth weight as a baby, knowing the background check the Republicans have done on Obama. How DARE you call a sitting United States Senator "That One"? How dare?
It goes deeper than that with me. Is John McCain a racist? Well, for me, as a African-American female, I so think now and John McCain has deeply lost all respect that I had for him. McCain pointed at Senator Obama specifically when he made that statement. He looked at Senator Obama with complete disgust during that same time. I believe in my mind, McCain real thought was "That One Black Guy" sitting over there...and other words that I will not say here.
One thing I can say positive about so to be Ex-President Bush, he never, ever gave me a impression that he was racist. He did not support many policies that could have helped African-Americans but, he did not directly hurt us with words. Hurricane Katrina, as a example....Bush just was stupid on the issue, did not have the resources to deal with it and slow to respond to the tragedy of the moment and afterwards. I do not think that Bush "Hated Black People" or other things that have been said in the past.
Bush in some cases tried to take on causes of the African-American community, even if I did not directly agree with him on all of them. Schools of Choice is one example, community based church programs is another and AIDS relief is Africa is an additional issue. Of course, I agreed with AIDS relief in Africa but Bush has tried....in small measures, to show that he has a sense of the world, outside of his bubble.
Condi Rice and Conlin Powell were two top officials in his cabinet. I have to say that I like Rice, even though I don't agree with her Republican views. I respect her for showing grace under pressure and giving a level of respect to African-American women, on the world stage.
Back to John McCain. He voted against the Martin Luther King Holiday bill, he spoke at Liberty University, he mocked about the seven houses that he had while I see many of my fellow African-Americans getting kicked out of theirs. Regardless, I still RESPECTED but disagreed strongly with him....until....
Those idiot attack lines of this week. The Palin speech in Florida was the crack in the glass. When the gentlemen from the audience said "Kill Him" ....Palin acted like the statement was "Go Sarah" and completely ignored it and McCain stayed silent. The entire glass cracked tonight on the "That One" statement.
Senator Obama has showed NOTHING but respect to John McCain during this entire campaign. He did not call him "John", "Hey You" and "Him Over There" during this debate. He took the insult and came back with a direct answer on the topic of the question asked. Obama "Walked Softly and Carried a Big Stick" tonight. McCain just walked....and could not even find the decency to shake Senator Obama Hand after the debate.
McCain should be FORCED to apologize for this statement directly on live television to Senator Obama, Michelle Obama, any African-Americans that he offended and all other Americans for one, taking a presidential debate down to a level of a street fight. Until such, he will never have my respect again.
Thanks for reading.
Update- October 10, 2008-In a rally today in Minnesota, John McCain told a women that I believe called Senator Obama the "N" word, "That is not acceptable". "Senator Obama is a decent man with a good family". "You have nothing to fear in Senator Obama if he become President".
Thank you McCain for this!! I personally appreciate it.
