Into the dark and deep depths of the American psyche the right wingers go. Will they go all the way?
The personal attacks against Obama are starting to tip into a scary place.
We have heard McCain call Obama "that one"
We have heard Palin claim Obama dislikes America
We have heard supports call for Obama's death.
We have heard supporters call him a terrorist.
We have heard supporters call an African American reporter "boy".
You know this. This is not news. What would be news is if the two ideas are put together in one phrase "N***** terroist".
It is sad and it is scary to see the right wing become unhinged like this. They haev reduced their anti-intellectualism arguements from the unquestioning resolutness of Bush to blatant insults. Although they are not really insults. Calling someone a terrorist is not an insult - it is accusing someone of being a criminal. Calling someone the N word is not an insult it is racist.
I would argue that our nation benefits from thougtful conservatives. The thrift and efficiency of Republicans (not the last 8 years) is good for gov. Having the nerve to face down the most evil dictators is useful in concert with diplomacy. Championing capitolism is a good thing. You may disagree but conservatives do have some good ideas. On certain social issues Republicans have some popular moderate ideas. Perhaps they could devise a thoughtful way for private enterprise to tackle the change from oil to wind and solar. I don't know. I don't want to belevie they are ALL bad.
However, when we see and ehar this type of rhetoric it smears the entire American dream. The notion that all men/women are created equal.
I hope they stop these attacks. I hope they don't take the full plunge into the depths of hatred. The fourth quadrant of voter should reject these decietful lies and attacks. I hope they do.
I wonder though: Will this stuff stick? It just might.
