I was on FiveThirtyEight and saw the following ad on the top of the page:
Okay, now, first of all, I clicked it. Why? Because Poblano/Nate gets money from McCain/Palin when that happens. Frankly, all you Kossacks should be going to FiveThirtyEight every day and clicking every McCain/Palin ad you see. Steal from the richassholes and give to the poornot-as-rich and really awesome (did you see Colbert last night?).
But then I looked at the ad…
…and I thought:
Where's John McCain? I thought he was running for president!
Let's take one more look before the starbursts give me a bo damage my screen.
Where to start?
• Well, let's start with the fact that McCain's ugly mug is nowhere to be found. His name is there but not any larger than Palin's. But it's her face they have on 538. Considering her approval is kind of in the crapper—worse than McCain's—you'd think she wouldn't lead the ads.
• Okay, now on to "A Proven Maverick." Hold it. She is not a proven anything except a proven idiot. They're juxtaposing experience ("proven") and it's antithesis.
• Why is Maverick singular? It is as if to say "hey look, Sarah Palin is the one running here." It is as if McCain's numbers are so bad that they are trying to salvage any semblance of Palin's brand whilst throwing him under the bus. It's base pandering, but I really think they picked the wrong website.
• A few weeks ago, when she was little miss perfect, this would have made some sense. When she was oh-so-popular, during that week, it would have made sense to have her leading the ads. "Hey, look everyone, forget about wrinkly Walnuts, this is who is running!" Now it reminds us what a bad decision Walnuts made.
• Or, quite possibly, they've thrown in the towel. It's no longer about McCain. They know he's lost. It's as if they are resigned to a Bob Dole — lose with some dignity — to keep the brand in tact. Of course, from everything they've been saying, that's not the case.
• So why is this ad running? Probably because the McCain-Palin campaign is being run by a bunch of idiots. Well more power to 'em.
GOBAMA!
