My, my, my...it’s getting down to the wire and everybody’s true colors are starting to show.
One thing that I really like about the Dkos website is that the people here appear to be open-minded on issues of race. I suppose I should cut the crap and be more specific. The white people here appear to be very open-minded.
I chalk it up to people of all races being basically good, and being tired of being lied to by our government.
It touches me that people here have a genuine concern for Barack Obama. We are all worried about his safety and security. The turn that the McCain campaign has taken can lead to no good. Yeah, keep on getting the village idiots riled up.
I have been talking to my 15yo son a lot about this, especially since now there are a whole bunch of pissed off white people looking to treat all brothas like terrorists. Even though we live in the middle of Indiana, he hasn’t seen too much hate like what McCain and Palin are kicking up in those rallies. My son’s generation is on a slightly different level in regard to race. But as they get older, I know it’s coming.
I have a friend in Connecticut who thinks, should Obama win, all black men are gonna lose their jobs on November 5th. At first I thought he was just sipping on a little extra Ketel One (that’s probably uppity vodka to most people), but at the rate the market is dropping, he might not be too far off. He also thinks black men are now going to be targets like they never were before. Three weeks ago I disagreed with him.
I’m not so sure he’s wrong now.
Barack Obama grew up in a very different environment than I did. On my way home from work, I was wondering what things his mother and grandparents told him about what life would be for him as a black man. They instilled in him the confidence to CHOOSE to live his life in the continental US as a black man. See, he could have taken the Tiger Woods Caucakenyanoid route, or stayed in Hawaii and blended in quite nicely with all the beautiful, exotic types there. But that wasn’t to be his path, thank goodness.
I know the times that my son has encountered racist bs, his father and I have encouraged him to never make snap judgments. We have taught him that the standards will always be different, and that he will always have to do more, better, stronger, and faster than his white counterparts. Defend yourself if you have to, but try to take the conservative approach, as your past will always follow you. Based upon the way Obama has handled himself, I imagine his family taught him much of the same. God bless them, because one of my nephews is biracial, and his mother and white grandparents keep trying to convince us that they can raise him to be transparent to issues of color. I sure hope they have been watching the McCain and Palin rallies.
I am really proud of Barack Obama. What a class act he is. It cannot be easy to be so accomplished but still be treated like dirt by privileged trash like McCain and Palin. He has done almost everything right, and had the best run campaign for president ever. He was raised to know that he would always have to do more, better, stronger, and faster. And his reward should be to win. I am still worried about him and this political atmosphere. But recalling my own experiences with racism, I am going to guess that this isn’t the hardest thing he has been through.
However you choose to handle the next 27 days Senator, you have my support. I'm honored to share this fight with you.
