It's time we grow up.
Okay, so we're all mad as hell at Joe Lieberman, and we aren't going to take it anymore. "Throw the bum out," "kick his dumb-ass to the curb," "Show him the door" are just a few of the thousands of nasty comments posted on this site and others in response to Harry Reid's probable removal of Lieberman from his chairmanship.
And while I find foul with what Lieberman said about Obama and did during the campaign, I wonder if we aren't as petty, childish and immature as our Republican counterparts when we can't rise above the fray and act like adults here.
People, President-elect Obama ran on the platform of CHANGE -- not only for the citizens, but also for the way business is conducted in Congress. We can no longer engage in a tit-for-tat, as has been the custom for so many years, and likely is one of the chief reasons Congress has such an abysmal approval rating. Won't we be just as churlish as the Republicans were after routing us in the 2000 election for all the evil actions committed under the Clinton administration, if we continue in these petty practices?
It's really time we practice what we preached during the campaign. Change needs to come to Congress, and instead of asking our representatives to smack down Lieberman, let's show that we fully intend to change the discourse in Congress and, hopefully, Senators and Representatives will follow suit.
No harm/foul comes if we allow Lieberman to continue in the chairmanship, with the proviso that if he screws up again, he's out. We're better than that; it's time we start to show it.
