What did you win recently?
You have won a hard-fought battle for the the right and opportunity to lead America's agenda for the next 4 years.
But what I have been reading on this site recently has left me wondering what exactly this community thinks it has accomplished?
Do you want the opportunity to lead for more than 4 more years, or will just the next 4 be okay for you?
Let me explain...
I came to DKOS as a Republican who was urging you to choose Barack over Hillary because I thought he could be your very own version of Ronald Reagan, and actually win in a landslide. That diary was rec'd to the top and my predictions proved to be correct. I was afraid you would choose Hillary, but alas, you made the best decision for you, and for America, by selecting Barack Obama.
Now, please hear me again.
I am your prophet.
America voted for Barack. Many of us did. Republicans, Democrats, Independants, Conservatives, Liberals, old, young, foriegn-born, black, white, brown, white-collar, and red-necks.
Barack Obama will become OUR president on January 20th.
Why do I say this? Oh, I don't know, other than by reading the diaries the last week or so has given me a different picture of your view of the victory accomplished.
The Republicans lost NOT because America wants bigger government, but because America (majority) is now convinced that after 8 terrible years of George Bush, the Republicans don't really mean what they say when they talk about it either.
The Republicans lost NOT because America rejected the moral standards that our country was built upon, but because after 8 years of Republican-elected officials being caught with their hands in the money jar, building bridges to nowhere, and absolute moral hypocrisy, Americans (majority) are no longer convinced that Republicans are better equipped to be men and women of ethics and character.
The Republicans lost NOT because America wants to head down a path of extreme liberalism, but because the conservatism that we were promised under George Bush was never realized. The "compassionate conservatism" promised to Americans went out the window when Dick Cheney became a stronger presence than George Bush in policy-making.
The Republicans lost NOT because Americans didn't like what they were saying, but because we didn't like who they were. Their actions spoke louder than their words. From Guantanamo Bay, to water-boarding to Abu Ghraib, the Republicans have lost the right to be heard.
And so now you have the floor.
But remember. Barack Obama won by 6 percentage points. 6 percentage points!!!
With the amount of deception, hypocrisy and down-right moral ineptitude on display the last 8 years, you would think he would have won by 20%!
It was only as close as it was because the majority of Americans had to close their ears to what the Republicans were saying about his policies and believe with huge hope that Barack would be a unifier... That he would not be as liberal as the Republicans claimed he would be... That he would not just talk of an America that would not be Red or Blue, but that he would actually govern to a Red and Blue constituency.
I know this is a "Blue" site.
I know this is a place for pushing, fighting and furthering an agenda. I get that.
Just know that at the moment your agenda is completely realized, Barack Obama will cease to be OUR president.
He, I know, is smart enough to realize this. But the question that remains for me is, are ready to make concessions as well, or do you all see this is an opportunity to shove a platform that only 22% of Americans can even find common ground.
