This is not a diary about gay rights, it is a diary about tactics. A recent well written diary and some well intend commenters were talking about how a group of people from the LGBT community went into a church in Lansing, Michigan and disrupted the services.
And these people are idiots who only set back the cause of those interested in gay rights.
If you go into my church while I am there with my family and you deliberately disrupt services, whether you are arguing for gay rights or tomato soup to be served at all church functions you've lost me.
I saw a commenter talk about how going into churches is "payback." And do we really need the media saying, "Oh look at those kids from dailykos, they now want people to interrupt every church service in the country and payback people while they pray with their families." Does that help? Of course not.
There is a jackass named Fred Phelps who pickets funerals. If you were against gay rights and you saw Fred Phelps at a funeral, you'd probably change your position over night. The people who went into that church are doing what Fred Phelps has been doing.
A wiser approach would be to find common ground, to pass what you can get passed now, to argue your position politely, to find humorous ways to get your message out, and perhaps once in a while engage in some peaceful civil disobedience.
The kids here mean well but this approach is childish. Sometimes the adults do know better.
