One of the most important lines from Obama's victory speech was when he said "This victory alone is not the change we seek - it is only the chance for us to make that change." This is an important statement for all of us to remember. It speaks to what we need to do. We need to hold Obama's feet to the fire and make sure he never loses his bearings and keeps his promise to work for the changes we seek.
Obama is only one man. He is not the new messiah or "the one", he is just one man up against incredible odds. I believe he knows this better than any of us. What we need to be concerned about is what happens while he is in the bubble know as the Presidency. Right now he is surrounded by a lot of schooled politicians all angling for his ear. They will counsel against making too many waves, being too bold. They will push him to seek what they call the center. But the center has been moved so far to the right over the last forty years that it is no longer relavent. There are many on the left already expressing concerns about some of the choices Obama has made such as Rahm Emmanuel and rumors about Hilary Clinton or Larry Summers getting cabinet posts. These concerns are real and warrant some skepticism. My concern is what appears to be Obama's stand on Senator Lieberman. I read today that some sources believe Obama thinks Lieberman should keep his chairmanship. This would be a travestry and an insult to all who worked for Obama and not some move to reconciliation. Lieberman made his bed and he should be made to lie in it. I can only hope the Democrats do what they should do and send him packing. All Obama supporters should make it clear that the first change Obama should make is to get rid of this wolf in sheep's clothing.
