I posted this as a comment in answer to idahospud44's excellent, very disturbing diary (and comments), Bobby Sent Me a Human Ear in the Mail:

Then I realized that it was important enough to merit a diary on its own that, hopefully, won't get buried before the word gets out. Briefly, EFT is a technique soldiers and veterans and their friends and loved ones can learn quickly and do for themselves, and I can tell you that it is a remarkable FREE treatment for people suffering from PTSD--or many other ailments we humans are prone to suffering from. Follow me below the fold for a video and more information.
UPDATED: I just had to rant a little in the comments.
First, let me say that I'm not suggesting that EFT will make all the problems veterans have disappear like magic, but it can provide a remarkable (some say even miraculous) amount of relief. Here is a video dealing specifically with veterans with PTSD, including research findings, but EFT works with many other problems, too (search in the videos for what ails you, and you'll probably find it):

There are tons of videos, newsletters, and articles on the site, http://www.emofree.com/ and lots of input by both professional and lay persons alike. Also, you can find EFT practitioners you can go to if you feel more comfortable about having somebody help you with it.
EFT is the best thing I've ever seen for treating PTSD. I had a bad chronic case of it and went through all the self-medicating and therapists/therapies that helped a little on one level but not at all on many others. Then I trained as a trauma therapist and worked three years with vets from all conflicts with PTSD and comorbid conditions. Various talk-therapy methods, meds, clinical hypnosis, EMDR, and all that...and nothing worked better for my own symptoms than EFT. I just wish I had known about it before I became disabled, because I know it would have made a lot of difference to the vets I worked with.
Even without the DVD training, you can learn all you need to know from the free manual and materials online. But try asking on your local freecycle list if anyone has any EFT DVDs you could copy. Gary Craig, who developed EFT, lets people who buy the DVDs make up to a hundred copies to distribute to people free because he is really motivated to HELP people. If anyone in Tallahassee, FL, would like a copy, I have a set my sister got for me; just provide the media and I can make you a copy.
Anyone who knows a veteran, please tell them about EFT and help alleviate their suffering. If they have trouble talking to anyone about what's going on with them, they can do EFT by themselves without anyone knowing they're doing it. We've got to do something to help our veterans, and the military and mental health systems are presently majorly failing them. It was bad while I was there, and I shudder to think how much worse it's gotten since I left. I just grieve for the Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families.
