I think I'm somewhere I shouldn't be.
A little over four years ago, as I embraced my current extreme left political beliefs I sought a community where I could share, learn, and connect with other serious progressives. Finding DailyKos was a joyous discovery for me. Here was a site filled to the brim with interesting progressives who cared about a lot of issues. There were scientists, and writers, and doctors, and factory workers, and cooks, and bakers, and accountants... I could go on and on about the diverse bunch of leftward thinkers that gathered here.
Recently, two big groups of them have been told that they aren't welcome.
First and foremost there is today:
kos posted a frontpage where he shows that a very courteous site member wrote him a letter saying that while he liked the site very much, he didn't want to read anymore because some of the anti-Nader craze on the site made him feel unwelcome. He asked if kos would offer an apology to Nader voters for calling them irrelevant.
kos' response? -- "FUCK YOU"
Before that it was Denny K:
In American politics the single candidate who holds the closest views to mine is Representative Dennis Kucinich of Ohio. On issues of poverty, healthcare, civil liberties, the role of government, and the abolition of war he represents me better than anyone else.
kos' feelings about me? -- "Ugh"
Now I suppose that's just kos and he's entitled to his own opinion. But the surge of comments today calling Nader "douchebag", and his supporters "assholes" and "fucknuts", and kos' accusation that because they voted for Nader they're not in touch with reality, it's just a level of demonization and out-group hatred that I'm not comfortable with.
I guess I have a question: Is there a site I can go to, a community that exists where people discuss progressive issues and ideas, and work together as activists to make progressive changes to our society, without all the anger and exclusiveness of DailyKos?
Are the splinter sites, Docudharma, EENR, any better?
Where am I to go if I am a Kucinich-turned-Edwards-turned-Obama supporter who respects the decision to vote for Nader?
