Kos posted a rather inflammatory attack and ridicule of Nader. While I agree with Kos that there are differences between Democrats and Republicans, I disagree with him on several issues.
Where was Obama on FISA? Single payer health care? Lieberman? Hell even prop 8. Obama made a statement saying it should not be passed, but never made gay marriage a basic right. The only people who really stand up for gays and lesbians are ironically those that are ridiculed on here: Kucinich and Nader.
Sure neither of them would win, but why these Republican tactics of ridiculing their supporters? Does not every American have a basic right to vote for the person they believe could lead the country in the best direction? Does it really matter if your preferred candidate cannot win?
I am from the Netherlands were we have 10-15 parties in parliament and so we can fortunately vote for a party we stand for and have us represented rather than voting for a party that fits me only marginally?
I am outraged that there were no third party candidates at the debate. Kos talks about MSM, but what about the fact that only two people are represented? And was it really a debate? I love Obama and I supported him wholeheartedly, but even he was not debating. Rather he was speaking to his supporters. I know the strategy he used and it worked well. But that does not mean Nader should be left out. Or anyone supporting him is bad.
This country needs a true progressive president. Obama might be it, but he is a lot more centrist than a lot of people think. Hell even Huckabee said the left would be way more disappointed with Obama than the right. And we have already seen it: FISA vote, supporting Lieberman, and the list can probably go on.
Don't get me wrong I am not one of those people that says that Nader is god. Honestly I did not like that he just did not sit back and supported the Democrat BUT that does not mean he does not have a right to run, or that people do not have a right to vote for him. Besides, just look at the high number of independents in this country.
I cannot believe true progressives like Kos cannot at least accept that.
