I had hoped, with Obama's candidacy, that we were on the way to a post-racist utopia. Yes, yes... naive, I know. But plausible.
I was given a cold-water bath this morning by a story in the NY Times story about a Black church in Springfield MA, under construction and about 75% completed, that was set afire by an arsonist or arsonists (according to officials) maybe four hours after Obama's victory was called by the networks.
I had been so naive or so optimistic that we were getting past all that, especially in the North. I really wanted to believe that we we were entering a post-racist phase. I had argued in comments here and there that Barack was no more black than Hillary was a woman, meaning that they were both extraordinary candidates, and that ethnic and gender labels no longer were pertinent.
I don't yet have any info about a reconstruction fund, but I urge you to chip in a few bucks. Will update when I have more information.
