One of the best lines spoken by Obama during the entire campaign:
Yeah, I don't do cowering.
He meant it. We knew Obama could be tough without shouting and scorching the earth in an attempt to tear apart his opponent. We knew those who called him Obambi were wrong.
And we are seeing this tough side of Obama as he assembles a battle-ready crew for D.C.
Quoted From the Times:
First there is Chief of Staff...
His chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, is a take-no-prisoners politician known for his willingness to butt heads with adversaries.
There has been a lot of pixel ink spilt about the choice of Emanuel, but I personally like him. He'll be a good liason to the Freshman wave of 06 and the Blue Dogs, and he has experience on the Hill like working to pass NAFTA. He'll help Obama get things done. For a good profile of Rahm click here.
Then there is the press secretrary.....
His press secretary, Robert Gibbs, is no shrinking violet, as one of the few people who can boast of shouting down Sean Hannity of Fox News on Mr. Hannity’s own show.
For those who missed it, here is a link to the Gibbs Hannity debate, in which Hannity gets served.
And then of course we have Joe Biden who we have all seen thunder away at congressional hearings, and Hillary Clinton, one of the toughest pols on the planet.
Add all this up and we got ourselves a political team that isn't going to screw around. They are all tough in their own rights, Obama certainly included, but together they are going to be a political force.
During the campaign Obama jokingly explained how he would win against his Republican opponent if he was swiftboated. He quoted a memorable line spoken by Sean Connery in The Untouchables:
If they bring a knife, you pull a gun.
If they send one of your people to the hospital, you send one of theirs to the morgue.
That's the Chicago way!
Yes, it seems Obama is no shrinking Donkey. The Dems are about to give the Republicans a taste of their own medicine.
They are bringing the Chicago way to Washington, and I am loving it.
