Mainly because it seems that I have a different idea of what revenge is, and I can't convince myself to accept the alternatives that are conjured up to appease me. I guess I'm just confused. For the last few days, today especially, the meaning seems to have turned inside out and emerged with a new definition.
Definitions.
It has taken over the meaning of other words and is the new go to for explaining away what should have happened.
With science fiction precision it has infiltrated every level of communication, replaced facts with mantra, and been taken up by plenty of eager standard bearers willing to deliver the company line, so the boat remains steady as it slips below the water line and drowns those aboard.
Revenge now means justice and partisanship at the same time.
It has replaced law and order,
and procedure,
and censure,
removal, reprimand
and punishment.
Common sense.
It now means that if you believe Joe Lieberman should have had his chairmanship stripped from him, you are an impediment to the great and joyous party of unity that's comin' round the bend. Your opinion is the fly in the chardonnay.
Every utterance is an attempt to swing the majority by shaming them into compliance.
Painting those that question the Senate's decision with a broad stroke that colors them subversive and troublesome, while at the same time implying that they're not even mature enough to deal with, because they want to fulfill such a base human emotion.
They haven't learned to play well with others, and are just unreasonable. Harrumph.
Revenge isn't what I wanted.
I wanted the Senate to remove him as head of the committee. Plain and simple.
That was the only choice that seemed appropriate and no amount of arguments to the contrary would be able to convince me otherwise, or have had any effect so far in appearing as anything but Himalayan size masses of BULLSHIT.
Compromise?
Another word that has new meaning. Now it means that it's ok to be raped, as long as your assailant wears a condom. No harm. No foul.
No thank you.
Today was yet another day when those who shepherded our constitution through it's infancy and allowed our existence by their sacrifices; were rewarded with a collective warm piss in the face, and a renewed determination from their unrepentant descendants to continue disrespecting them tomorrow.
It's business as usual.
