Wow. It's getting ugly here in Central Pennsylvania. I've been watching morning news and MTP here in the State College/Altoona/Johnstown region, and hoo-boy. Reverend Wright is making a miraculous comeback. Barack Obama will destroy our military. Joe Biden thinks that Obama will signal the death of America. A small businessman addresses the camera and tells me that he can't hire 30 new employees because Barack Obama is a naive commutarian who wants to kill enterprise. Multiple Joes the Plumber remind me that my taxes will go up and Obama wants to kill my puppy.
Jesus H. on a stick, people, we are getting slammed.
I know this isn't much of a diary but I think it's important to let you know what's going on here in Pennsyltucky. One interesting story that seems to be going unreported by the national media is the complete onslaught of Rev. Wright ads on the air, at least here in Pennsylvania. So when Chris Matthews applauds John McCain for not making an issue of the good reverend, he DOES know that Republican billionaires uh, you know, ARE making an issue of Rev. Wright, right?
I wouldn't go so far as to say that Rev. Wright is swinging the race here in Pennsylvania, or contributing to the tightening of the polls. But - and this is a big but (Pee Wee reference!) - if Obama loses Pennsylvania, will the pundits ignore the tens of millions of dollars spent by third party groups in the last few days? The complete onslaught of negative advertising attempting to convince me that Obama wants to get rid of the military, worship at the alter of the Black Panthers, and put small business owners in the pokey?
I'm glad Obama decided to opt out of public financing and raise money on his own. He needed that 1/2 hour special to get his message out. The Republicans are throwing everything at our man now. So batten down the hatches and get out there and get a few more people to go to the polls.
Tuesday is when this is over.
