One major theme of the last, oh thirty days or so has been to leave everything on the road. Seeing as I am currently overseas studying I decided to lob on more chunk of change over to those american roads that you guys have walking canvassing and getting out the vote.
I'll admit, this is not going to be a very long entry, and if you guys feel like I should delete it i'll be fine with that, but I just wanted to share a few things.
First of all, being in the European country, it is amazing the coverage that I am able to receive. I am actually going to a Nov 4th Election Day Party sponsored by Europeans. This is not even for americans, but for the europeans that are interested in US elections. It kind of funny, considering the party will go from 8pm-4am... and even then the majority of the states will not be reporting by its end (five hour time difference from the east coast). The amount of interest on this side of the Atlantic is tangible, when I went to drop off my absentee ballot a few weeks ago, I was actually questioned by a postal worker on my vote. I mean, by no means was it intimidating or anything, He was just genuinely interested in how I had voted in an election that would affect his life almost as much as my own. Absentee ballots have been flooding the place I live in, and the amount of news coverage (which is actually fair and ...good) on the US elections is amazing. I have a renewed respect for the BBC. amazing coverage, analysis, everything.
Side Note: If you haven't already seen the 3 part documentary called The Power of Nightmares I highly recommend it. Not sure if I linked something worthwhile, but it has brief summary. Parallels the rise of Al Q and Neocons.
Anyway, as the beginning of this post mentioned, I gave more money to Obama. Yes, I realize that he is flush with cash, Yes I realize that its almost over. But I also realize that until every vote is counted, and until every poll station is closed, every minute, cent, door knock or phone call counts. So in a minorly selfish way, I donated a final time, one of perhaps 5 times since the beginning of last year when the primary first started, just enough ($30) to get me one of those sweet t-shirts and also put me in the running for going to the celebration. Although, I doubt I'd let the campaign waste money on flying me 10 or so hours... The real point is I am broke, I've been in a foreign country living off all the money i've made in college / high school for almost 3 months without any chance of getting employment to replenish my funds. So I face decisions of travel, or food. Dry cleaning or food. So for the past week I have cut down on food, travel and washing my clothes (hand washing in a small sink is fine for the most part), so I could donate for one last time. I may be over 2000 miles away, but hopefully my money will help you guys do what I wish I could, win this election.
