The republican party in Georgia mailed out thousands of requests for absentee ballots to republican voters here in Georgia. There was just one little problem...more after the fold--
Many of those republican voters did not sign the request for absentee ballots and they will not receive a ballot to vote. The count of invalid absentee ballot requests so far? 5,000 and counting. It seems that the request for absentee ballot confused some of these folks. They thought they should only sign if they were submitting a change of address. I guess the GOP didn't think it through. A short note with simple instructions? This news had made my day.
If this wasn't enough good news. The local early morning news is reporting that over 2,000 volunteers are in place to work for Jim Martin this weekend. Bill Clinton was here in Georgia on Wednesday and of course those GOP supporters so far--McCain, Romney and Sarah Palin is slated to be here.
I have to wonder how much this helps, as rural Georgians are not thrilled with "outsiders". Bill Clinton is a Southerner, former Pres. and not considered an outsider. We continue to push and I am very thankful to the Dkos community for your out pouring of help in money, and actual in person volunteering for Jim.
I am more hopeful for Jim Martin than I was 3 weeks ago.
