We've seen a good number of posts already on where to go from here. Some of them very good including What Should be the Future of Daiky Kos by slinkerwink.
I want to offer my two cents.
We have been building our ability to run progressive primaries for a while now, most notably in the case of Lieberman on 06 and Donna Edwards in 08. MoveOn.org chipped in on the Edwards race, and groups like Strange Bedfellows have the funds to run ads against bad candidates.
I say we make 2010 the year of the progressive primary.
We start work now.
We begin pooling money to primary several Democrats in 2010. Every time a Democrat pisses us off, votes the wrong way, throws progressives under the bus, sides with the Blue Dogs and the Republican Minority, then we throw blogs like DKos, Open Left, and Fire Dog Lake into action raise money in that pool like the Strange Bedfellows pool. We take that money and fund progressive challengers for 2010 from the begining.
We engage local blogs and local activists to begin focusing on several key Democrats and begin recruiting or raising money for primary challengers in those areas.
Of course we would focus on those who offend on a myriad of key issues like:
The economy
The Iraq War
Clean Energy
Global Warming
Universal Healthcare
Civil Liberties and the overall War on Terror
The difference between what we did before in terms of primaries and what we do now is this: We start now. We raise funds now. We build connections to potential primary challengers now. No more of the 'we don't have the votes' or the people don't want big change--we show spineless Dems the door.
If the last two elections have told us anything it is that people want big change. 2010 should be the Year of the Progressive Primary for every Dem standing in the way of that progressive change.
IF you're interested in working on such a project, say so in the comments. Maybe we can get something going in December.
