So, it didn't take long for one of the political parties in Israel to co-opt the now-legendary theme of the Obama campaign - "Yes, we can".
But, guess which party it was?
The answer...after the jump.
10 points to anyone who guessed...wait for it...SHAS!!! Here's the pic, and I can confirm that I saw it on several buses already today.
That's right. Everybody's favorite crooked Sephardi Orthodox Party. (Admittedly, every party in Israel is crooked.)
This is the party of Aryeh Deri, who actually did time for his corruption, and is now just waiting out the statutory time period before he can run again (and he will win, too).
This is the party that just last week had their spiritual leader, Rav Ovadia Yosef, proclaim that secular teachers were "jackasses" (as with many things Hebrew, this was a play on words, as the Hebrew words for "teachers" and "jackasses" are only one letter off).
Rav Ovadia, btw, is the person that single-handedly has chosen the last two Presidents of Israel. First, by screwing Shimon Peres and choosing the rapist Moshe Katsav, and then by screwing Ruby Rivlin in favor of...Shimon Peres. A principled guy, that Rav Ovadia.
Now, I'm assuming that the phrase wasn't trademarked in Israel, and so I guess the real question is: Will every party here co-opt some form of Obama's campaign? There are already reports that Obama advisors are working for Likud and for Meretz.
So, if imitation really is "the sincerest form of flattery", congratulations President-Elect Obama. Look what you've gone and done.
