Cue REM's "It's the end of the world as we know it...."
Texas State Board of Education member Cynthia Dunbar (Republican - duh) doesn't want to say, I told you so, but according to the Houston Chronicle
"I sincerely believe that an Obama Administration would ultimately mean one thing - the end of America as we know her," said Dunbar, one of board's seven social conservatives.
Dunbar noted that Obama running mate Joe Biden recently predicted that foreign adversaries would deliver an early test if voters elect Obama.
"However, unlike Joe, I do not believe this attack will be a test of Obama's mettle. Rather, I perceive it will be a planned effort by those with whom Obama truly sympathizes to take down the America that is threat to tyranny," Dunbar wrote. "What nobody seems to be discussing is the fact that if such an attack takes place, what about Martial Law? What happens to expand executive power when a state of civil disorder is declared?"
This is one of 7 conservatives serving on the board that is
...an elected 15 member
board, oversee the public education system of Texas in accordance with the Texas Education Code.
As if that weren't bad enough
Cynthia Noland Dunbar currently teaches anatomy & physiology to high school juniors and seniors.
I don't even want to think about what means.
Dunbar was elected to the State Board of Education in November 2006 and will serve a four year term on the board. She serves on the board's Committee on Instruction.
The board is supposed to insure that
(A) Instructional materials should present the most current factual information accurately and objectively without editorial opinion or bias by the authors. Theories should be clearly distinguished from fact and presented in an objective educational manner.
(B) Instructional materials should promote citizenship, patriotism, understanding of the essentials and benefits of the free enterprise system, respect for recognized authority, and respect for individual rights. The materials should not include selections or works that encourage or condone civil disorder, social strife, or disregard of the law. Violence, if it appears, should be treated in the context of its cause and consequence. It should not appear for reasons of unwholesome excitement or sensationalism.
(i) Instructional materials should present positive aspects of the
United States and its heritage.
(ii) When significant political or social movements in history generate contrasting points of view, instructional materials should present balanced and factual treatment of the positions.
(iii) Free enterprise means an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership of capital goods; investments that are determined by private decision rather than by state control; and prices, production, and the distribution of goods that are determined in a free market.
(C) Instructional materials should not include blatantly offensive language or illustrations.
And much much more that, having heard Dunbar's view, makes me doubt their success.
And what does Chapter 4 of the SBOE Code - Regulating Board Conduct - say about this type of behavior:
That's not an HTML error. That's silence. Chirp.
But we don't have to be silent:
