Yeah, we’ve been saying it for a while now. Years, actually.
Whether it was "Mission Accomplished" or "you’ve covered your ass now" or "heckuva job, Brownie" or the 16 words or hundreds of signing statements or "bring em on" or "now watch this drive".....I could go on and on and on.
And while much is in the past, and on one level we should be happy that he (and his criminal cronies) will be gone real soon and the adults will take over, it is the actions Bush is taking even now, on the way out the door, that show that we still have a vindictive nasty selfish asshole as our President.
Bush Aides Rush to Enact a Safety Rule Obama Opposes: The Labor Department is racing to complete a new rule, strenuously opposed by President-elect Barack Obama, that would make it much harder for the government to regulate toxic substances and hazardous chemicals to which workers are exposed on the job.
This is just one of a large number of things that are being done right now by Bush as one last "fuck you" to the country. One last turd in the already rotten nasty punchbowl –because he can. The man is too chickenshit to do anything adultlike with respect to the crumbling economy that he (1) caused (2) neglected and (3) told everyone that he needed $700 billion rightfuckingnow otherwise all hell would break loose. The man holds a summit with 20 countries but does jack shit there – and had to know full well that nobody would work with him on any of his bullshit faux-macho posturing anyway.
Administration Moves to Protect Key Appointees: Just weeks before leaving office, the Interior Department's top lawyer has shifted half a dozen key deputies -- including two former political appointees who have been involved in controversial environmental decisions -- into senior civil service posts.
---snip---
The personnel moves come as Bush administration officials are scrambling to cement in place policy and regulatory initiatives that touch on issues such as federal drinking-water standards, air quality at national parks, mountaintop mining and fisheries limits.
Just like the incompetent Brownie, Bush wants to leave his mark by putting ideologically twisted but loyal people into high level career civil service jobs – where they can impart their ideology and block reality – because he can. Some of these jobs are going to people with no relevant background or credentials.
Bush on His Legacy: ‘I liberated Iraqis’: "I'd like to be a president [known] as somebody who liberated 50 million people and helped achieve peace," Bush told his sister, Dorothy Bush Koch, in a conversation recorded for the oral-history organization StoryCorps for the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.
The above should be looked at in conjunction with this:
Bush ‘very pleased’ with Iraq War outcome: US President George W. Bush believes the Iraq war was a success and is "very pleased" with what is happening there, he said in a pre-recorded interview broadcast on a Japanese television network Sunday.
And this about how 1,000,000 Iraqis were killed, and this about the "surge", and this and this and this about recent violence, and this vote to kick US troops out within 3 years (even though most of Iraq wants us out sooner, not to mention those of us here in the US).
And with the speculation over who will be pardoned, which includes a call to pardon war criminals, and illegal wiretappers it is easy to recall the things this administration has done to put a huge black mark on this country’s reputation and history.
But when the entire Presidency over the last 8 years can be summed up in a policy of "fuck you, I’m doing this because I can", I guess I shouldn’t have expected anything different.
