I am a Democrat that happened to move from a Blue State (MD) to a Red State (OK) earlier this year. Even though I have had to deal with listening to Right wing rhetoric like Obama is a communist and being a "liberal" is unamerican, I have tried to keep the faith that Americans would speak up and vote out the crap that we have had to deal with over the past 8 years.
I have done my part, I'll vote today and I've donated to Obama's campaign so that he could get his message out to the people and helped register people to vote. But as we get to election day, the fears that I have are coming to the surface.
I think back to the last two elections when I was so certain that the American people were smart enough to not vote in Bush only to be crushed on the evening of the election at the stupidity of the American people.
The polls say that Obama is in the lead, but I cannot get the butterflies out of my stomach as I watch the die hard republicans rally together at the last minute to vote for the republican party.
I received two robocalls last night, one urging voters to vote republican and stop socialism, and one from a minister urging people to vote for the pro-life candidate because the bible says so. In light of messages like this I wonder if people will really embrace change.
I want Obama to win so bad I can taste it. I have already booked my tickets to DC for the Inauguration if he wins in Jan., but the election jitters are starting to hit me.
I really urge people that support Obama not to get complacent and assume that he is going to win, but to go out and actually vote for him. I see on a daily basis that there are people that actually buy every lie that McCain and Palin have thrown out at Obama hook, line, and sinker.
I hope that later this evening we get the Headline that Obama has been elected. It would be a dream come true.
