Back in August when Barack Obama and John Mccain sat down with this moron for a so called "Faith Forum" on politics I knew the consequences were not going to be good. I knew that Barack Obama, by virtue of sitting down with Warren (while not being in a position to challenge Warren's hateful views) would send the absolute wrong message to many Democrats, liberals in general, and gay Americans. I knew some would get the wrong impression of Warren, they would look at him and his 'aw shucks', 'Happy Days-esque', Hawaiian shirt wearin, easy goin demeanor and think to themselves "Hey this guy ain't so bad".
Markos himself wrote a diary on the subject

Even going so far as to depict Warren as some sort of anti-evangelical evangelical.
You don't have to be religious (and I'm clearly not) to get excited about a faith-based movement that is focused on service and charity, and that sees its mission as improving peoples' lives, rather than dividing them.
Needless to say, this is all 100 percent opposed to the current Evangelical right wing, that has (pathetically) put all its faith in George W. Bush, that insists on injecting itself into the political process, that insists on defining itself based on who it hates and rejects, be it gays, or liberals, or people who have sex, or whatever.
While Warren's church officially declares that homosexuality is a sin, it doesn't make a crusade out of the issue...
. Christians are rejecting the Engel/Perkins brand of religion for Warren's more uplifting and positive message of action and change.
So Engel and Perkins and Huckabee can have their little hate soiree in DC. The contrast between them and Warren will be all the starker.
Of course I immedieatly challenged Kos on this nonsense.

Yeeeaaahh... uh.. well it turns out that as I (and anyone who has actually ever paid attention to the things that Warren has said in the past) knew all along, Warren's brand of religion doesn't present that much contrast at all between him and the rest of the fundies... he's just a better, more charasmatic huckster than most.
Turns out Warren HAS made somewhat of a crusade against gay rights (who would have suspected, he seems like such a nice guy) Warren himself wrote recently endorsing Prop 8.

For 5,000 years, every culture and every religion -- not just Christianity -- has defined marriage as a contract between men and women. There is no reason to change the universal, historical definition of marriage to appease 2% of our population. This is one issue that both Democrats and Republicans can agree on. Both Barack Obama and John McCain have publicly opposed the redefinition of marriage to include so-called 'gay marriage.' Even some gay leaders, like Al Rantel of KABC oppose watering down the definition of marriage.
Of course, my longtime opposition is well known. This is not a political issue, it is a moral issue that God has spoken clearly about. There is no doubt where we should stand on this issue.
This will be a close contest, maybe even decided by a few thousand votes. I urge you to VOTE YES on Proposition 8 -- to preserve the biblical definition of marriage. Don't forget to vote!
So much hate, fear, and ignorance.... so little logic.
the same right wing, fundie, talking points we've heard for years now
'no need to protect the rights of minorities'... thats just appeasement of the "GAY AGENDA"
'Gay marriage would ruin "traditional marriage"... can't let the queers marry, that will make me hate my wife more than I already do!
My God says its an abomination!..... yeah, your God also say its an abomination to eat lobster (seriously). When when are you gonna move to ban shell fish... I'm sure you could get that on the ballot.
And for anyone thinking that this is a new stance for Warren, and that he's turncoat, or maybe he didn't always feel this way... he reminds us...
my longtime opposition is well known.
Yep, all we had to do was pay attention.
