I have never voted before in my life. This is my first year to vote and what a great year to start.
I voted today for a change. In previous diaries of mine, I bring up this 'change' a lot. This 'change' Kossacks, is Barack Obama.
He is the change because he wants to fix what Bush has ruined. He want's to change America's ways. He is the change because he is completely different than Bush.
Today is not a day for me to bash McCain. Today is not a day for me to talk about how poorly Palin conducts herself. Today is not a day for me to sit here and complain about the unchangeable mistakes both of them have made, or the insults that have been thrown.
Today is the day to tell everyone who is losing their homes, or out of work, or struggling to feed their family that help is on the way. It won't happen overnight. It won't happen in a week. Give Obama some time, however, and you will see a change.
Today is a day to tell my father how proud of him that I am. Proud of him because he is a registered Republican for the past 25 years. Proud of him because today, when we went to vote; he voted for Obama.
Today is a day to remember Toots. And keep Obama's heavy heart in our prayers. Today will be the day he wins, but today is also Obama's day that he will be mourning inside.
Today is the day to remember all of the intelligent young children who understand what Bush is doing is wrong. It's the day to remember the children you saw on Halloween commenting on Obama signs or dressed up as Obama. Our generation is more intelligent than I ever imagined.
Today is the day you will see both men and women crying tears of joy after they vote. Knowing, that their vote, their single vote will make a difference. And it will.
Today is the day to remember that person you met that complained about how they needed a tax break to make it through. The person you met that never got one. The person you met that will get one.
Today is the day to remember the men and women who died. The men and women who died to protect our country. Our broken and battered country. The country that soon will be built up to what it should be. The men and women who died, died for change. They kept this country alive, and now, because we are still standing, Barack Obama will be here to back us up and fix the damage.
Today is the day to remember your grandparents. The grandparents who went through tough times as our country was developing. The grandparents who witnessed wars, who died in wars, who waited day in and day out for change but never received it.
Today is the day to remember our ancestors. The ancestors who had nothing. The ancestors who long ago went to bed at night dreaming of the future. The future they wanted for their children, and all the grandchildren to come. If only they could see us now.
Today is the day to remember your friends, family, employees, the people you love the most and hold closest to your heart. Because in voting for Obama, you are voting for all of those people and more.
Today is the day to invision our government. Soon to be a government that people will respect. A government that other countries won't laugh at. A government that knows what they are doing. A government run by Barack Obama.
Today is the day to dream of our economy. How it will slowly begin to build up. Dream of the changes that will be made so that we don't go to sleep every night with worry in our hearts. But ease, knowing everything is better.
Today is not the day to post diaries on here about how horrible McCain is, and how Palin is screwing both herself and McCain over. Today is the day, to sit, listen, watch, and know. Sit at the computer or at the TV. Listen to what is happening in the polls today. Watch the faces of Republicans you know when the term 'President Barack Obama' will be used on television and radio stations. Know that today is the turning point we have all been waiting for.
Today is the day that everything will change. After today, nothing will be the same.
Today, I voted. Today I voted for Barack Obama. Today my one vote made a difference. Today, because of my vote, I am a part of the faithful team we have for Obama. I am a part of the millions that will vote for Obama. But my one vote is not just a vote that is tossed in with the rest. My vote is special. So is everyone elses.
When you vote today, know that because of YOUR vote for Obama, you are making a difference. Know that your vote counts. And know, that your vote is just as special as mine, and every single person here at the DailyKos.
I will say one last time, on the most special day of our lives; America, Yes we can!
