[I live in a county of ~21,000 - the word from the County Auditor's office is that there were ~5,300 early ballots turned in. I voted this morning - no lines, and the ballot machine showed 178 votes at 11AM, or so.]
OK, paper cuts may be a strained metaphor, and I optimistically pulled 62,000,000 out of thin air - but I think you get the idea. Today is the day.
A few weeks ago, I was at Hometown Bank and stopped in the lobby to check out the big bulletin board of local events. There were five posters announcing fundraisers for local folks with cancer. Men, women, children, parents - all suffering and all so desperate for help with the bills that their friends were literally begging for help from the Community. In 2008. In the nation that Sean Hannity called "the greatest gift that God ever gave to the planet."
When I'd visit my buddy, Scooter, in Wisconsin, I'd see the same thing. Every weekend in the Spring, Summer and Fall, there were brat frys and fish frys to raise money for families that were slowly sinking under a pile of medical bills they couldn't dream of of covering.
That's just one issue that America faces. But today - today we can right what's been so terribly wrong with the nation for the last few decades. We can step up and say, "We will take care of our families! We will take care of our veterans! We will honor the Constitution and basic human rights ! We will stand up and lead the World, instead of threatening it! We will use our values and resources to create opportunity for all, not profit for a few!"
Today, we will witness an amazing piece of History. We will create, you and I, an amazing piece of History, and we can turn the World around. But you have to get out there and vote - it's a moral imperative, kids. And, for some added fun, you can make K-Lo cry. You can make Jonah Goldberg eat his silly words. You can make Michelle Malkin and Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity bang their heads into the refigerator and scream. We can shut down the bastards who judge us by our "flair" but turn their heads to the suffering and corruption we'ved lived under for 8 years.
If you live in the Western states, please don't miss your opportunity. Don't give up, don't blow it off, don't be discouraged or complacent. There are many, many downticket Dems who need your vote, as well. We all need your vote - it's another paper cut.
E pluribus unum. Si se puede, mijos y mijas. Yes we can. Yes, we fucking can.
