This will get lost in tonight's hoopla, but what the heck.
My grandfather, in his late 80's, attended a Klan rally in the 20's. His father took him, as it was the thing to do in rural Iowa then. The Klan was at it apogee in Rural America then.
Fast forward several generations, and my grandfather not only loves, but is giddy, over his newest grandchild Miles, who we adopted from Ethiopia in August. He is very Black, and my grandfather, a lifetime Republican, doesn't care.
Clearly the Klan's message didn't stick.
The world changes in small ways, but sometimes we don't realize until the dramatic moment. Here we are.
Morning in America, indeed.
