Actually at the risk of being labeled by some as anti American like they tried to do Michele Obama I can honestly say tonight that I am prouder of my country than I have ever been in my life.
Tonight we witnessed not a man who posed as some high prince or elitist, but instead an humble and somber man who knows the weight of the job he is about to assume. I saw a man who spoke out and offered compassion and hope to not only those who voted for him, but for those whose votes he did not win as well. I saw a man who says he will be a president for all of us those who supported him and those who did not and I believe him. That will be so refreshing after the past eight years of what this country has had. So many of us and in fact something near 50% have felt for the last eight years that we have been excluded for the most part.
More below.
Tonight just as throughout this campaign I looked at the crowd gathered to hear our next President speak and I saw the true mix of races and ages that make up this great nation of ours. I saw just as I have for the duration of the campaign in the faces of those gathered to hear this man, not the anger and cries of be fearful, but rather the hopes and dreams and joy that is truly representative of our great nation. The face of the crowds that have cheered and gathered to hear our next President speak have been one of the more positive things that I have observed during this long campaign.
To my friends who were supporting the other team I will say this to you and I honestly believe that I will be proven right.
This is a man who regardless of all the claims to the contrary and in spite of all the claims about how the Democrats will try to drive this country far too much to the left will in fact govern more near and from the center than the talking heads have tried to sell the public.
This is a man who has the unique ability to bring people who want the best for our nation together and he realizes that as well as the huge responsibility that comes with it. Regardless of what the Republican's have tried to claim during all these past months this man will actually disappoint many of those who are the more liberal of us in some ways because he will not go in and push every far left agenda. I am sure that there will be times when he will disappoint me since I am in many ways very much to the left except when it comes to economics, but that is alright because he is not there to serve as my personal President. He is there to serve as President of each and every one of us and the test of a truly great leader is in healing and uniting our nation by making it inclusive and a nation for all. He can not do that if he does not serve for all of us and he knows and understands this.
I honestly believe that given the opportunity this man can accomplish that if anyone can.
It is time for an end of this us against them and blue state and red state America. It is time that we can once again look like act like and be the one America that we must be to remain the great nation it has always been destined to be. This man will offer us that opportunity but it is up to us to accept that challenge and help him to accomplish that.
Tonight America came of age. Tonight it took a huge step in confirming that our nation is truly a nation of hope, freedom and opportunity for all. There is now but one other giant step I hope to live to see in our nation.
That last great step that I hope to live to see but have little hope of realizing is the day that we as a nation correct the situation we have put so many of our Native Americans in which is one of our greatest shameful acts.
Tonight I am a happy old white man who actually cried a few tears of joy to watch as it was announced that the first African American was just elected President of the US. Today is a truly great day even for those who felt that you lost tonight.
Peace
:)
